Congress is launching ‘Pyaari Didi Yojana’ before Delhi’s elections, offering women Rs 2,500/month.

While both AAP and Congress’ schemes promise financial assistance for women, the latter has positioned its own initiative as a more robust and immediate solution.

In a major political move ahead of the Delhi elections, Indian National Congress announced the ‘Pyaari Didi Yojana’ for women empowerment in the capital city. The scheme will grant financial aid to the women of Delhi at Rs 2,500 per month to the eligible beneficiaries. This scheme is launched to garner the support of women voters, which is one of the important factors in the coming elections.

Why is ‘Pyaari Didi Yojna’ a key issue in the upcoming Delhi elections?

The ‘Pyaari Didi Yojana’ has been framed as a welfare measure to address the financial challenges being faced by women, especially the ones who hail from economically weaker sections. The scheme promises Rs 2,500 every month, easing the financial pressure on women and giving them the economic security that shall help take care of their families and raise their living standards.

The members of the ruling Congress party framed the scheme in their effort for women’s welfare and gender equality, adding that it would contribute toward bridging economic gaps that women experience in Delhi.

Key Features of the Scheme:

1. Target Group: Basically, the scheme targets women above 18 years of age residing in Delhi, with greater emphasis on the economically weaker sections of society.
2. Amount Offered: The eligible women will be entitled to receive an amount of Rs 2,500 per month directly into their bank accounts.
3. Eligibility: Women must be able to meet the required income criteria so that the financial assistance can reach the right needy persons.
4. Direct Bank Transfer: The aid will be directly transferred to the accounts of the beneficiaries, thereby cutting off all middlemen and ensuring more transparency.

Why is it being launched now?

Pyaari Didi Yojana is being viewed as a tactical attempt by Congress to reach out to women voters with the Delhi Assembly elections round the corner. Women in Delhi constitute a sizeable chunk of the electorate, and the Congress is trying to tap this demographic with a financial incentive that would directly affect their daily lives.

This move comes against the broader backdrop of Indian politics, where political parties have increasingly focused on women’s welfare to garner support. Whether this initiative will translate into votes remains to be seen, but it is certainly generating buzz in the lead-up to the elections.

The Political Implications

The ‘Pyari Didi Yojana’ scheme, though thought of as directly targeting women voters of the state, set off again debates over the use of financial doles during elections. Also, reactions against this scheme from several quarters have elicited sharp response from the political spectrum over issues like whether such initiatives are honest efforts at the betterment of people’s lives or mere promises over elections.

Any which way, with elections drawing near, ‘Pyaari Didi Yojana’ would continue to remain in the forefront of discussions whereby political pundits and the electorate think about its outcome in the polls.

Conclusion

The ‘Pyaari Didi Yojana’ is only an indication of how political parties are increasingly making women’s welfare a major electoral strategy. Though long-term impact remains to be seen, this has already generated considerable interest among Delhi’s voters. Whether it will secure Congress’s position in the upcoming elections is left for the electorate to decide, but it definitely underlines the growing importance of women to shape India’s politicking panorama.

NEW DELHI: In what appears to be an apparent masterstroke ahead of the Delhi assembly elections, Congress on Monday released its new welfare scheme, and it is called the ‘Pyaari Didi Yojana.’ The scheme said it would grant Rs 2,500 each month to all women in the national capital if voted back to power in the state.

This is announced by Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, drawing parallels with such initiatives’ prospering in Karnataka.

The announcement of the scheme by the Congress comes in direct response to AAP’s Mukhya Mantri Mahila Samman Yojna which promises Rs 2,100 in monthly assistance to registered women voters.

While AAP and Congress have promised financial aid to women, the latter has pitched its scheme as a stronger and quicker solution. Shiva kumar said that the scheme was designed to make women economically independent and was yielding results in Karnataka. “We are very sure that Congress will come to power in Delhi, and within the first day of coming into office, in the first Cabinet meeting itself, this scheme will be implemented,” he added.

Comparing this with the Karnataka model, Shivakumar said this measure was enough to save Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,000 rupees every month for a family in Karnataka. He is confident that comprehensive and overdue reform will be done similarly in Delhi, benefiting all its residents.

This initiative is emblematic of the Indian Parliament’s commitment to women’s empowerment, particularly in the context of the upcoming Delhi elections, as evidenced by the Delhi unit’s chief, Devender Yadav, anticipating the implementation of additional programs aimed at promoting gender equality in the near future.

Yadav reassured the people of Delhi that the party’s approach would be grounded in action, drawing from its successful implementation of similar schemes in states like Karnataka, Telangana, Himachal Pradesh, and Rajasthan.
